🦐 Purple OE Shrimp
Purple OE is an ornamental freshwater shrimp from the Caridina cf. cantonensis group, selectively bred for its purple body coloration and the OE (Orange Eyes) trait.
It is part of the advanced Tiger/Taiwan Bee lines, valued for its striking contrast between body and eye color.
🔎 Appearance
Body color: deep violet to purple ( solid purple)
Eyes: bright orange (OE trait)
Size: ~1.5cm (unsexed juveniles)
Females: larger, more intense coloration
Males: smaller, lighter in tone
Some specimens may show faint tiger-like striping depending on lineage and breeding.
🧬 Genetics
Derived from Super Tiger / Taiwan Bee crosses
OE (Orange Eyes) is a recessive gene, giving the shrimp its signature eye color
Selective breeding aims to:
Intensify purple body color
Maintain clean orange eyes
Stabilize pattern expression
🌡️ Care Requirements
Purple OE shrimp are sensitive Caridina species, needing stable, soft, acidic water:
Temperature: 20–24°C
pH: 5.5–6.5
GH: 4–6
KH: 0–1
TDS: ~100–150 ppm
Substrate: active shrimp soil to maintain pH and minerals
Sudden water changes or high hardness can stress them and affect coloration or molting.
🍃 Behavior & Breeding
Peaceful, colony-oriented
Best kept in species-only tanks for selective breeding
Breeds in freshwater with stable parameters
OE line requires careful pairing to maintain eye color
