🦐 Red Devil OE Shrimp

(also called Orange Eye Red Devil)

Red Devil OE is a selectively bred ornamental freshwater shrimp from the Caridina cf. cantonensis group.
It belongs to the Tiger / Taiwan Bee lines and carries the OE (Orange Eyes) recessive trait. This line is prized for its deep red body color combined with vivid orange eyes, creating a strong visual contrast.

🔎 Appearance

  • Body color: intense deep red, sometimes ruby or crimson

  • Pattern: no pattern on high grade

  • Eyes: bright orange (OE) — main distinguishing feature

  • Size: ~1.5cm (unsexed juveniles)

  • Females: larger, more intense red coloration

  • Males: smaller, lighter red or translucent

High-grade Red Devil OE shrimp show uniform deep red color with clean orange eyes.

🧬 Genetics

  • Derived from Tiger / Taiwan Bee crosses

  • OE (Orange Eyes) is a recessive trait and requires careful breeding to maintain

  • Selective breeding goals:

    • Intense solid red body

    • Bright and stable orange eyes

🌡️ Care Requirements

Red Devil OE shrimp, like other Caridina OE lines, are sensitive to water conditions:

  • Temperature: 20–24°C

  • pH: 5.5–6.5

  • GH: 4–6

  • KH: 0–1

  • TDS: 100–150 ppm

  • Substrate: active shrimp soil recommended to maintain stable parameters

They are prone to stress and color fading if water parameters fluctuate.

🍃 Behavior & Breeding

  • Peaceful and social

  • Best kept in species-only tanks to maintain genetic purity

  • Breeds in freshwater

  • OE trait requires controlled pairings

  • Moderate breeding difficulty; more sensitive than Neocaridina
