Monosolenium tenerum (often sold incorrectly as “Pellia”) is an aquatic liverwort popular in shrimp and aquascaping tanks for its soft, decorative growth and relatively easy care.

🔎 Basic characteristics

  • Type: Liverwort (not a true moss)

  • Color: Dark green, slightly translucent

  • Texture: Thick, branching, fleshy thalli (fragile)

  • Growth rate: Moderate

  • Height: 2–5 cm

  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate

💧 Aquarium requirements

Light

  • Low to medium

  • Under strong light it grows faster but can become loose and float away

CO₂

  • Not required

  • With CO₂ it grows denser and shows a deeper green color

Temperature

  • Optimal: 18–25°C

  • Tolerates cooler water well (good for Caridina shrimp setups)

pH & hardness

  • pH: 5.5–7.5

  • Soft to medium water preferred

🌱 Growth habit & use

  • Forms soft cushions or mats on hardscape

  • Does not attach by itself — must be tied or glued to rocks/wood

  • Can detach and float if not secured properly

  • Excellent shelter for baby shrimp

  • Traps detritus, so occasional gentle cleaning is recommended

PLEASE NOTE:

As this moss comes from a shrimps tank, it may contain baby shrimps or small snails
