🦐 Blue Tiger OE Shrimp
(also called Orange Eye Blue Tiger)
Blue Tiger OE is a selectively bred ornamental freshwater shrimp from the Caridina cf. cantonensis group.
It is part of the Tiger / Taiwan Bee lines and carries the OE (Orange Eyes) recessive trait. This line is bred for striking blue body color with bright orange eyes, giving high visual contrast in planted aquariums.
🔎 Appearance
Body color: sky to royal blue, semi-transparent to solid
Pattern: classic tiger striping, usually darker blue or gray on the body
Eyes: vivid orange (OE, Orange Eyes) — defining feature
Size: ~1.5cm (unsexed juveniles)
Females: fuller, deeper blue
Males: smaller, lighter, more translucent
Higher-grade Blue Tiger OE show more intense blue with clean, consistent tiger stripes.
🧬 Genetics
Derived from Tiger / Taiwan Bee crosses
OE (Orange Eyes) is a recessive gene; maintaining it requires careful selective breeding
Breeding focuses on:
Intensity of blue color
Stability and clarity of OE eyes
Clean, defined tiger pattern
🌡️ Care Requirements
Like other Caridina OE lines, Blue Tiger OE is sensitive to water conditions:
Temperature: 20–24°C
pH: 5.5–6.5
GH: 4–6
KH: 0–1
TDS: 100–150 ppm
Substrate: active shrimp soil to maintain stable parameters
Avoid sudden changes in water chemistry; soft, acidic water is essential.
🍃 Behavior & Breeding
Peaceful and colony-oriented
Species-only tanks are preferred for breeding
Breeds in freshwater
OE trait requires controlled pairings to maintain eye color
Moderate difficulty; more sensitive than Neocaridina lines
