🦐 Black Tiger OE Shrimp

(also called Orange Eye Black Tiger)

Black Tiger OE is an ornamental freshwater shrimp from the Caridina cf. cantonensis group.
It belongs to the Tiger / Taiwan Bee lines and carries the OE (Orange Eyes) recessive trait, prized for its dramatic black-and-orange contrast.

🔎 Appearance

  • Body color: solid black to very dark gray

  • Pattern: classic BTOE with no pattern

  • Eyes: vivid orange (OE trait) — defining feature

  • Size: ~1.5cm (unsexed juveniles)

  • Females: larger, deep black

  • Males: smaller, deep Black

Higher-grade Black Tiger OE specimens show uniform dark body with no markings and bright orange eyes.

🧬 Genetics

  • Derived from Tiger / Taiwan Bee crosses

  • OE (Orange Eyes) is a recessive trait; maintaining it requires selective breeding

  • Breeding goals:

    • Deep black body coloration

    • Clear OE eyes

    • Defined tiger stripe pattern

🌡️ Care Requirements

As a Caridina OE line, Black Tiger OE shrimp need stable, soft, acidic water:

  • Temperature: 20–24°C

  • pH: 5.5–6.5

  • GH: 4–6

  • KH: 0–1

  • TDS: 100–150 ppm

  • Substrate: active shrimp soil recommended

Sudden water changes or high mineral content can stress the shrimp or affect molting and coloration.

🍃 Behavior & Breeding

  • Peaceful and colony-oriented

  • Best kept in species-only tanks for line stability

  • Breeds in freshwater

  • OE trait requires controlled pairings

  • Moderate breeding difficulty; sensitive to water parameter changes
